V60. Start fob reprogram?

Post by olddaddy »

We bought a 2015 V60 today, first newish car in over 20 years. So, we probably need a class on all the high tech stuff, including the start fob. The car came with only one and we would like two. Volvo wants around $410 locally for one. Can we buy a used one, like from another car and have it reprogrammed to our car? Or is there a cheaper way to get one instead of the Volvo dealer?

I found a seller on EBay with a matching fob for my V60 for $54, guaranteed to program. I guess that is a better deal assuming Vovlo will program it.

If you're willing to risk it but all the ones I see on eBay are used and will not work. Either way the dealer will still have to program it for you.

The ones I am looking at are oem Volvo. I wouldn't buy a used one unless someone could tell me for sure Volvo would reprogram it.

no way for the used one. Only new can be programmed to the car.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

So, I bought an OEM Volvo fob off EBay for $56 and my local Volvo dealer programmed it to my car for $160. They were hesitant, but it was a Volvo part and they did the programming. It works fine and all is well for now. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.
