Re: 98 T5 sluggish
Check the big vacuum line that runs under the air box to the brake booster - that thing has a connector that can break if a little rough handling of the battery and air box has been committed.
The sizes of the vacuum lines aren't that big of a deal, as long as you get a tight seal wherever they're going. I've always used 5 or 6 mm for everything, and 6 is a little on the plus side. I wouldn't be worried about using 5 mm for everything, as long as the hose fits over whatever nipple you're connecting it to. (Obviously, this isn't the case for the line under the air box...

Here's my experience: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=74799
Still not done with it though. No way I could ever spin my front tires! The heat is brutal though this time of year. My CBV is original (18 yrs), but holds a vacuum. I don't have a boost gauge at present. Got side-tracked with other maintainence & upkeep.

I don't think a T5 automatic is capable of spinning tires off the line on stock tune - there is severe torque limiting put in place in 1st gear. Around a corner, sure.

With a little launching action, it's more than capable - it might not be something that's recommended you do all that often, but it's definitely possible. Usually, they let go after a second or two instead, though.jblackburn wrote:I don't think a T5 automatic is capable of spinning tires off the line on stock tune - there is severe torque limiting put in place in 1st gear. Thanks for clarifying that. Not at all the way I drive. However, the sled has never been the T5 Monster I thought. Small wonder given the large detuning I discovered in the article I wrote. It would be interesting to drive one all "properly set up" to compare.
Re: Brake Booster vacuum tubing. The section from under air filter box to BB is original and hard-as-a-rock. The fittings do easily spin, indicating it's probably leaking. I ran out of large dia. silicone tubing and the local business I bought it from is Toes Up. Good reminder to finish off that last section.

I'm assuming that if it will hold a steady vacuum for a few minutes, then there is no hole in it. Is that correct?
I've read these are a PITA to replace, thus the vacuum test first.

I did mine with an iPD kit (using the medium spring) a while ago. I thought it was far easier than some had made it out to be - make sure you've got good lighting, and remove stuff that's in the way. I don't have an air box anymore, and I pulled the intake tube to do it. I also have "piano fingers", which helped. But it's by no means the trickiest thing I've done.sleddriver wrote:I'm assuming that if it will hold a steady vacuum for a few minutes, then there is no hole in it. Is that correct?

As for the brake booster vacuum tube, use 8 or 9 mm (3/8"?) tubing - and route it basically wherever you like. Some people choose to put it between the airbox and engine, for easier access.

So I did some more probing and the white vacuum line on the intake tube after the MAF was unplugged and I can't find where it goes, any insight?
