99 V70r: Stereo DOLBY AMP wiring diagram

Hi!

I recently took possession of my 3rd P80 volvo, and one of the first things I normally do when I get these things is put a new stereo in it, so I have Bluetooth and all the modern conveniences. I had a seamless experience with my 99 N/A using the normal Metra harness adapter, and I had a relatively easy experience with my 00 V70R, interfacing my aftermarket head unit with the factory amp.

I had hoped that my experience with this new car would be similar—the head unit wasn't working but I pulled it out quickly to see that the wiring harness was in there. A couple of days later when I went to install my new head unit, I noticed that there were spliced wires of all kinds, and that the harness that WAS there didn't have all the wires going into it.

So, what I'm looking for is some sort of wiring diagram for the Dolby system (And is there an amp? It's not under the seat like my other car). I have found some other threads, but they are OLD and point to dead links.

What head unit is fitted to the car? Not all Volvo Radios have the amp or need them. If you have a single CD disc in head unit (SC-816) this has a built in amplifier, but I have sometimes found cars which still have an amp attached to this unit.

The Head units with the 3 CD built in changer (SC-900/901) do not have a built in amp, and that is usually found under the passenger seat.

Dolby unit as you know is behind the head unit. Older 850's and come 98 P80's have an amp fitted behind the head unit.

I have a few spare head units and amps, and maybe some wiring harness end pieces with the plugs on them so if you are stuck PM me.

Thanks for the help! Apparently 2 owners ago had an aftermarket stereo, and he took it out and just stuck the original sc-901 in the hole—i was surprised to find that there was no amp under the passenger seat (my '00 had the amp under the seat). Is the Dolby unit also an amp, or is it just some sort of sound processor? I am trying to trace where all the wires go and what they do.

Thanks for the help! My other two installs were easy but I can't make heads or tails of the wiring.

To all intents, the amp is just on a wiring loop that connects to the original 2 connector that plug into the regular radio, runs to the amp and then returns. I'm not familiar with the Dolby system, but I think it is a processor but not sure of the amp capability. You do need a amp for all that system to run. Can't recall the product name but there is an aftermarket unit you can plug into the head unit that gives blue tooth capability.

btw, the 850ies had the amp behind the center console / radio in front of the heater core. So if someone fiddled with the car already I´d try checking if they mounted an 850 amp there.
