Stutter on cruise

Post by luke lennard »

Hi, :D

I have had a searched and tried some changes mentioned in certain threads, but cannot find exactly what I am experiencing. :cry: this thread here is the closest; https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 10&t=75610

My first issue I had was the engine sounding like a diesel! being a 2.5T petrol I was a little concerned :o It turned out the exhaust CVVT gasket mesh was clogged, oil change and new gaskets for both intake and exhaust solenoid solved that issue. Service done including plugs, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter. That was February time.

After a few weeks I noticed stuttering and hesitation when coasting at about 60kph. There were no issues shown in VIDA. This gradually got worse, after reading a lot of info here along with a few other small issues I decided most likely the PCV system had never being done, and might need a overhaul, so ordered all the parts fitted everything, cleaned the throttle body while in there. All back together and away we went. All seemed fine, this was April time.

Now from end of May I have been getting the same stuttering/surging almost like I'm tapping the accelerator, hard to describe like a jolting. Nothing was showing in VIDA (other than SAS issue that I have had intermittently since buying the car nearly two years ago) Again I trawled through the forums, plus suggestions from a friend who is a local mechanic that it could be the MAF, apparently they can be faulty but not throwing errors.

So I changed the MAF, within a few K's the car was bucking like a horse and engine light on, VIDA showed ECM-1210 Mass air flow (MAF) sensor - Flow too high, so I disconnected the battery overnight, this apparently to reset the LTFT etc. Tried the following day, drove beautifully first but around the 50K mark the stuttering started again, it was a long drive stuttering, stopped and restarted and engine light came on, connected VIDA and reset the codes (same as before). Engine light off, but stuttering again.

Basically I am left with two codes in VIDA that if I disconnect the battery and/or clear with VIDA go for a short time, before stuttering starts and then engine light comes on with the following codes;

ECM-1210 Mass air flow (MAF) sensor - Flow too high
ECM-212D Long-term fuel trim, bank 1 - signal missing

there are a few other codes related to SAS communication (I have a anti-skid requires service intermittently) but not worried about that just yet, thats another project :o

Any ideas where I go from here? I did read about the fuel pressure sensor, but mine doesn't have one on the end of the fuel rail, others have mentioned this on 2004/2005 models, and although you can see it in diagrams I have no idea where it is located! :roll:

any help or hints would be greatly appreciated, thank you. :D Luke

Hi again, thought I would just post and say I removed the new MAF Sensor and put the old one back. This removed all the codes (except the SAS issues).
Unfortunately I still have the stuttering/hesitation and no codes so a little at loss where to go next :? so if anyone has an idea then I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts, cheers Luke
