So, this has been an ongoing thing for about a year or so now. It goes like this: as I accelerate to around 2500 rpm (or around that time that the tranny shifts), my car makes this awful "errrrrr-tsh" sound (you don't really expect me to properly describe a sound, do you?) that lasts about 3 seconds. If I continue to accelerate into the next gear, it will repeat that sound again. Now, it doesn't do this all the time. It tends to happen more as I'm driving for longer periods of time. It's not super loud, it can easily be covered by the radio. If my car could talk (which, yes, it does), that "errrrrr-tsh" sounds a lot like a complaint about my driving.
Thoughts? Experiences? Personal opinions about how I sound like an ignorant girl that doesn't know anything?

Perhaps recording a video of the engine with a helper at the pedal would help, it doesn't sound like a 'standard' issue. Might well be a simple exhaust shield rattle.

Sorry for late reply, yes it is helpful because based on engine type I would know what type of transmission is on it which is Aisin AW55-50SN. I would start by checking the transmission oil level, if it is ok than check the oil color it should be like cherry color and also it should`t smell like burnt, if it is black and smells like burnt than go ahead and change it. To change it you should buy transmission oil 15l (VOL-1161640), transmission oil pan gasket and oil filter (CRP-30681088FEK), drain plug o ring( VOL-30713220), transmission hose retainer (VOL-9485149) and two retainer hose gasket o- rings(107948). So to change it you drain the transmission oil from drain plug underneath the car and you should be measuring all the time the amounts that you take out, after you drain it you open the pan take out the filter and put the new one in just don`t forget the filter seal, than clean the pan and replace the pan gasket and tighten the oil pan bolts to 10Nm (do not over tighten it you will bend the pan and damage the gasket which will leak) after you install the filter and the pan measure the amount you drained and put the exact amount new oil in transmission through transmission dipstick (take your time), after that take the upper transmission hose that goes to radiator in the driver side with the green clip out and connect a hose tight in radiator put the other end in a can and than start the engine( ask someone to start it for you while you hold the hose in radiator) it will pump old oil from the radiator you should stop at 2 liter(if you don`t want to damage the transmission) and than put 2L new oil in the transmission and start the car again and continue until the oil that is coming out is the same color as that one that you are putting in put the dipstick in and take it for a spin until it is warm and check the fluid level one more time( you should check while the car is idling in neutral and in even road surface). If this is not your case than you could have problem with solenoids, torque converter or other internal parts which are expensive and you should consider changing the transmission.ashly.ydr wrote:Well now, that would've been helpful, wouldnt it? It's the 2.9.Volvo S80 wrote:What type of engine does your S80 has on it?
Hope I could help, and wish you find your problem
