I'm looking at getting a V70, and I noticed the P3 (2008+) doesn't get much love compared to P2. What is the reason?
I heard it is heavier, and it doesn't offer the much loved 5 cylinder but is there anything else?

They were designed under yoke of Ford. I had oil changed once in our new Ford-influenced XC60, and I didn't like what I saw underneath. Inside it also misses that special Swedish car feeling. Glad this is wife's car, not mine.

They may be very good cars, but to me the P3's look like every employee at Volvo was allowed to add one chrome doo-dad of their choice to the outside of the car. The six cylinder may be nice and smooth, but you will forfeit a couple MPG to drive one, compared to the 2.4 or 2.5 five cylinder.
Maybe I'm just jealous that I can't afford one.

Volvo guys have a lot of disdain for Ford, not sure if it's warranted, the p3 platform is based on the Mondeo.
I do like the P3 interior but I love the 5 cylinder rumble and power/economy combo

They replaced 3.2 inline-6 N/A with 2.5 inline-5 turbo in model years 2015.5 and 2016. You still can get a new P3 with 5 cyl. Or wait 5..10 years until current owners will be ready for price negotiationmecheng wrote:I do like the P3 interior but I love the 5 cylinder rumble and power/economy combo

They're fine after the 2011 model year, much better after the 2013s and the 15s and 16s are excellent Volvos
Like you're supposed to avoid 2001 and 2002 P2, you avoid 2008-2010 for a myriad of reasons I'm not going to go into here.
I just bought a 2015.5 XC70 T6 Polestar for my sister and I was very impressed on this final year for the 6 cylinder, but you're comparing over 30K (to buy one at wholesale) to 5-7K to buy a decent P2 wagon

Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

I paid more than that for my wagon and I've already had to change the oil on it three times. It's killing me. And what's with this tank that needs gas every month?

I've never heard any issues for 2008-2010, can you educate me, what are the issues?JRL wrote:They're fine after the 2011 model year, much better after the 2013s and the 15s and 16s are excellent Volvos
