AC blower resistor removal Topic is solved

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

AC blower resistor removal

I was able to get the blower motor and resistor assembly out of my '99 S80, but I can't figure out how to get the resistor out of the assembly. Does anyone know? There are two screws that hold the resistor in, but the fan blades of the blower don't let you lift it out. Instructions for a 2001 show two screws holding the motor in from the back, but mine has no screws. New blower motors seem to be the whole plastic assembly, but then how would you get the resistor under the fan?

If I am correct in understanding where you are at in the process;

1) Put the blower "Blades Down" on a flat surface.
2) remove the 2 screws on either side of the top of the shaft end.
3) Carefully pry the motor and cap assembly apart paying attention to slide the little cable through the hole.
4) The resistor will be in the cap end with the 2 screws you need to remove in plain view.

Just thought about something -
you did pop the drain tray (the part w/ the integral hose connector) off, right?

Drain tray? I didn't know it came off. That explains why I thought mine didn't have screws on the back. Thanks for thinking of that.

You're welcome, took me a minute to remember that.
If you haven't reassembled everything yet, you'll find that the blower motor is easier to install without that pesky tray attached. After tightening the screws just snap it back on. Easier to remove w/o it too!

I installed a new blower and resistor and now the fan speed lights come on, but the fan doesn't work at all. The fuse was blown and I replaced it but it made no difference. Also now when I first turn the fan on the lights jump to all lit, which never happened before. Each light will light up as I turn the dial down and up, but the fan doesn't move. I don't know if it's related, I'm having trouble with the CEM too. The low beam shunt is blown so the lights won't work. This has been going on for years. I replace the shunt once a year. Could that affect the blower? Should I put a meter on the fan plug? I don't know what I should look for.

I discovered the fuse keeps blowing. Any ideas what could be causing that and how to track it down?
