After running perfect ever since Robert and I did the RMS a year ago, yesterday morning the 850 did two severe coughs before starting, set a CE light, and then after idling rough, died. Later, after I read the code (PO103), the car started right up and the idle smoothed out. The car is at stage 0 as far as new temp, cam, crank sensors and good ignition system, battery, fuel relay, fuel filter, etc. The fuel pump runs before start and there is pressure at the rail.
So since this is the original MAF with almost 161K, I'm thinking about just springing for a new Bosch without further investigation.
Does anyone see any problem with this approach?
Ken

Nope. If you can afford it, getting a new one every 100,000 miles would likely pay for itself in fuel savings.

+1 on that... I thought mine was in pretty good shape until it soured kind of like yours. Put in a new one, and my MPG rose to what's now a steady 30. And I don't drive nicely - I like the turbo way too much.

Try a used one from a low miles car. I think I picked one from the Pic-n-save for around 20 bucks, 100k mile S70. In fact I have two of them, if you'd like to chance one you're welcome to. You can PM me. There are tons of these things around if you're wanting to save a few $$.

Thanks for the offer, rguzz, but we are looking to put some real miles on this car in the next 6-8 months, and since I basically haven't had to put a part on it in almost a year, I don't mind getting a new MAF since these things seem to go out like thunder. The S70's went about the same way and at about the same miles.

As I usually try to do a follow up for those perusing the archives, I installed a new Bosch MAF and the 850 has been performing great. No more codes or hiccups. Thanks for the confirmation MVS!
