PCV Job Done- New Problems Now Topic is solved

Hey all, I tried wrapping up the PCV job today as it was getting dark. Good news is no leftover parts!

Well I crossed my fingers and tried starting the car. Started right up on first try and seems to run fine.

However, the car now has the flashing up arrow on the dash. I have never seen this before. I also noticed blue smoke out the back of the engine which I never noticed before when i revved the motor. Ugh.

One step forward-two steps back I guess. The car's battery has been disconnected since Saturday/Sunday if that matters.

Any thoughts?

Up arrow makes you have a transmission code. Get it read thru the OBDII port.

Blue smokes mean you're burning oil. Did you spill any on the exhaust manifold?

I don't remember spilling any oil. I believe the only real deviation I made from the PCV tutorial was spraying some sea foam deep clean in the throttle body/butterfly and tried to clean that.

Having seafoam in the intake will make the engine smoke a little. Smoke should go away soon though.

Did you remember to plug back in the TPS? That can give a flashing up arrow.

I seem to remember another thread recently about having the up arrow come on after a PCV service. I'm not sure if the OP ever figured out the problem or not though.

Also, hopefully the TPS did not get solvent inside of it while cleaning the throttle body, I have ruined one TPS that way.

Great call. I came home today from the midnight shift, waited for daylight, and went and looked. Sure enough...it wasn't plugged in. I plugged it in and started the car. Light still on. Does the light need to be reset or will it eventually go out (if that is the issue-which seems very probable)?

TCM codes can be tricky to reset - make sure you have a reader that will talk to the TCM, and reset the code. It will probably not go away on its own.

Well I woke up and decided to take the car for a quick spin around the block. Well ironically the transmission shifted smoother than ever as I went down the street even with the light flashing. Got to the stop sign, made a right turn, started accelerating and then I hear a clunk? from the engine compartment and the car has limited power. No extra lights come on at this point. The car, at constant throttle, seems to be pulsing. As I head to the house, it dies while driving. I put it in neutral, while still rolling, and it fires right back up. It happens again shortly thereafter. I limp it home and park it.

I guess I'll just have to take everything apart again (should go quicker!) and see where I messed up. Of course, a hurricane is coming, so I don't expect too much time to work on the car over the next few days.
