I came across a set of crossbars from an XC at the junkyard, and I was going to grab them, but I don't know if they will fit my older style thinner roof rails. I have a '98 with the thin roof rails, and they don't have that "slot" on the underside like the thicker XC rails have.
So, has anyone had any luck using the crossbars on the thin rails? Will they work?

As long as they are from a P80 they will fit.

One negative of fitting the thicker style rails that I never see mentioned here is that they drip rainwater directly into the doors. I have both styles one on each car and I'd choose the thin rails if possible for this reason alone.

I like how the thick ones seem a little more heavy duty and durable, but I prefer the thin rails. They have a nicer look, too.
Thanks!

When you put P80 XC crossbars on P80 thin rails, the surface of grip is narrower/less. They fit, but it is definitely not as secure. Just be careful when putting them on. For this reason I switched my second wagon to XC rails, because I only have one set of crossbars.

The XC rails on my two wagons don't seem to drip water, I am curious to hear more about that. Do you mean when the door is open, when it is closed?

When the doors are open and the car is at the right angle water drips right down onto the sides of the seats. It irritated me for years and just recently a friend who has a similar setup asked me if mine also did it without me mentioning it.

I probably just haven't noticed it. Thanks for the info.
