1997 Volvo 850 T5 M4.3 to M4.4 conversion questions
Alright first post on the forum since i have bought my first 1997 volvo 850 t5. i hope i didnt miss the boat on this one i just need some home help with converting my m4.3 to m4.4. i have read the wiki and it has some good instructions on what to do when you have everything but what exactly do i need? the way they word it all i need is a ecm from a 1998 volvo v70 turbo, a vag com cable with the proper chip, a computer, and tunerpro, plus all the files to download? then all i have to do is download the file that fixes my ac so it works and move some of my sensors around and then i am good to tune? i am confident i can tune just not sure on everything i have to do to get there. i know there are some members on here who have accomplished this task and any info is appreciated thanks.

Number 1 step should be buying and installing a wideband o2 sensor so you can get used to it. You'll be needing it to check your air / fuel ratio so you can tune accordingly. I like AEM brand of wideband sensors.
You'll need a 98 Turbo ECU. Does not matter if the ECU is from a S70, V70, C70, V70 XC, 2.3HPT, or 2.4LPT. ECU from a 98 and turbo is all that matters.
Get the VAG cable from where the Wiki pages says.
A computer that runs windows.
Tunerpro is free to download and use.
Yes, all files. Bin files, a/c files, flash files, everything should be listed on the m4.4 wiki site.
Negative on moving any sensors. You can, but there is no need. You can disable sensor look up in the bin files once you loaded the bin file up in TunerPro.
When I used the bin files I download from the wiki and burn it to my ECU, I found the engine ran too lean above 6psi and idle is also too lean. Boost runs at 15psi and the engine knocked. Since I didn't had the time to adjust and test the M4.4 tune, I took M4.4 ecu out and used a flashed M4.3 ECU instead.
http://m43.wikia.com/wiki/M43_Wiki M4.3 ECU bin was very good right out of the box, idle was perfect and boost a/f was good.
PS, my gas mileage gauge was way off, like 5mpg off using the bin from M4.4 wiki and blue injectors in my 94 850 Turbo with a manual swapped. You can scale it, but I just find it annoying that it didn't work right out of the box.

Welcome to MVS!
Everything trying wrote is spot on, he hit "submit faster than me so some of this is redundant. Notice he has a manual not an automatic, that is relevant for some of his comments, which is yours?
You have it mostly right, for a non-modified tune you need
- any m4.4 ECU, you can get that from a 97 GLT or any 98 turbo
- the right vag-com cable (see the wiki)
- computer
- software (all free)
Yes you will need to use the AC software to modify the .bin file, before you flash it onto the ECU.
You do not need to do anything with your sensors, except if you have SAS then delete SAS in the tune and remove it from your car. If you want to modify the tune, see tryingbe's suggestions.

Perfect thank you guys for the info i have a boost gauge a wideband gauge comming before i start this project. I am relieved i dont have to move any sensors. Would it be worth it to order a egt gauge aswell?
