Oil cooler line rebuild service - source?

Post by BackRoadSeeker »

I've read a good number of older posts about some people who would take our oil cooler lines and rebuild them for a fraction of the cost wanted for new OEM lines. Anyone know if this is still being done? I think I can probably find a local hydraulic company to do it, but would rather buy from someone who has a proven reputation with these particular cars.

Any place that builds lines for tractor trailer's should be fine.

Thanks Robert. I was hoping to get some rebuilt lines with maybe using my old ones as a core. Could always get some from the junkyard though. Cooler lines are identical for both LPT and HPT cars, right?

Yes, LPT and HPT have the same lines.

I am pretty sure Orlando still does them, I have a set from him that is several years old now, no leaks: https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =7&t=53362

Or DIY, all you need is:
- Good oil-compatible hose, Gates is probably good.
- 2 Oetiker clamps at each end, so 8 total. You can get Oetiker clamps on ebay for cheap.

Search forum for photos, some people have posted them.
NOTE: the Green O-rings at Oil Thermostat, search forum for tricks and tips.

Below is TRANS Cooler Lines rebuild, but the idea is the same for OIL Cooler Lines rebuild:

I'm really liking this idea - I'll grab some lines from the junkyard and try this out. Can't beat that price compared to the crazy $200+ that FCP wants for new OEM lines! Your rebuild on the trans cooler lines looks identical to what Robert's rebuilt lines got done, except for the really ugly blue hose haha (sorry Robert!).
