2001 V70 T5 with failed alternator pulley-advice needed Topic is solved

Greetings,
Alternator pulley seized and spun off of the alternator shaft, also taking out the Conti Multi belt. It appears to me that the pulley separated from the pulley bearing. Please see pictures. Would you agree with is assessment? If so, do you think it is possible to use the special pulley removal tool to remove the bearing, and then just replace with a new pulley/bearing and Multi belt? All other components seem fine. I also checked the timing belt and she's fine. I'd like to avoid replacing the alternator if possible. Thank you for any advice you may give...Greg

if you feel confident in doing that without pulling the alternator, go for it. Please report back to how it went.

Tool and new parts are on the way. We'll see how this goes and whether the alternator needs to be pulled to remove the bushing. At this point, the alternator bushing may be fused to the shaft based on the heat generated. Hoping I don't need to buy a new alternator based on a bad alternator pulley. Volvo should make customers aware that the pulley is a maintenance item that should be replaced when the timing belt and tensioner are replaced. Pretty disappointing.

Why new alt? Used ones from a good ebay seller are perfectly fine - I'd just make sure it has the same Amps and keep the old regulator just in case
Alt pulley along with the a/c compressor bearing are pretty known to fail around after 150K mark. The alt is not that a bad job actually, if the lower a/c compressor bolts are not stuck in there.

Thanks for the input. Are you suggesting the alternator be removed after removing the AC compressor, or just loosen the compressor to make it easier to get the alternator out? I had read on another Volvo forum that you needed to remove the alternator across the front of the engine, along the radiator, after removing those components in the way. If you know the easiest way to remove the alternator, please let me know or share a link/how to. Thanks.

yes the alternator shares a bracket with the compressor and this plate must be loosen a bit to extract the alternator

at 10:30 I'm pulling the alternator from my non turbo, with the power steering pump tossed but not disconnected

Update on repair:
No luck removing what was left of the pulley on vehicle. I removed the alternator and still couldn't remove it with the special Metalnerd alternator pulley remover. Even after days using PB "Blaster", she wouldn't budge. I also tried heating it up and no luck. Finally I cut the damn thing off with a Dremel. Alternator threads were not damaged. Attached is a picture of what was left of the pulley, and the new pulley installed. Alternator and new multi-belt are now installed and the car is running great.
