Headlight aiming

Post by Jaguar xjs »

Hi folks. I'm working through several issues on my new to me 96 850. I noticed my headlights were not even close to being aimed correctly. The right bulb was pointed at the right white line about 10 foot in front of the car and the left is blinding any approaching driver. Time to do something about this.

First I replaced all six bulbs up front. I tried to adjust them but they were frozen solid. Removed the lenses and after a liberal soaking with PB Blaster,I was able to adjust both headlights both up and down and side to side and the fog lights up and down.

I did a search here but didn't find any direction for proper aiming. So, I went back to what I used to aim my lights on my two project cars.

There is a guy called Daniel Stern who has a web site with accurate directions to aim headlights. I believe if you you google Daniel stern lighting you can read his stuff. Believe me, once you follow his directions your lights will be close to perfectly aimed. Give it a look if your lights are less than usable!
