I have replaced that hose in a couple cars, using a generic part from Advance Auto. Works really well. It comes in a white box, corrugated hose like the original, it's black on the outside, not silver. I tried searching their site but didn't find it, I can't remember what section of the store it was in (exhaust maybe?). I know I have seen the same part on the shelf at O'Reilly's here. Take the broken hose in to the chain store auto parts place and ask if they have anything like it, they probably do.

Thanks for posting this, it is a good alert for people.

Thanks for the tip. I found the OE part for about $50. Its about $15 at O'Reillys. As long as its not flimsy it will do the job. I'm going tomorrow to see what they have. I'll stop at Advance first since they are much closer to me.

Go to OReilly and buy the "Pre-heater hose" for $10 or so.
Make sure you get the one with I.D. = 2 inches.
Below is a photo from my DIY Exhaust Manifold, you can see the heater tube, I think it is made from Aluminum:

Thanks, I'm going there tomorrow. The volvo part is crazy expensive for what it is.

Luckily there was nobody filming it. It happened during lunchtime and the street was completely empty. I learned in an instant that once the car is moving you cant get it back into park. The spot where the car was parked is essentially level - only a little slope. I had the parking brake on.

Anyhow, I posted the info about the car rolling so nobody else who reads this makes the same mistake. ALWAYS use your wheel chocks. Maybe there should be a forum for safety. Of course, I knew better but since the car wasn't jacked up I never even thought about wheel chocks.

Sounds like your parking brake needs fixing!

No matter if my car is new or old and even if I have a flat driveway (I do have a flat driveway).
I always chock the diagonal wheel: if I am working on LF wheel, then I chock RR wheel, BOTH the fore and aft parts of that tire.

Rocks, Bricks, Rubber chocks, 4x4 wood etc. Most people have these things lying around.
arbor Freight sells the rubber chocks for about $7 or so.

Parking brake overhaul (actually all 4 corners plus parking brake) has been on the list for awhile. I plan to put on 4 new rotors, new pads, new rubber seals and hoses and all new parking brake components. Its a fairly involved task and I have a life that doesn't involve the 98 volvo. I just cant spend every Saturday working on it. I was unaware that the parking brakes didn't function well in reverse. They work fine going forward.

I found the pre-heater hose at NAPA for about $13.50. The NAPA part seems to be very good quality. Autozone had nothing but a wide eyed look and O'Reilly's had something I could order for $36.00 that would be available in a few days.

I am very happy with the NAPA part.
