2001 S80 Volvo Surges and Stalls
I'm new to the group. Hello everyone and thank you for having me. My 2001 volvo s80 sometimes surges at 1000rpm with no acceleration from pressing gas pedal. It also stalls sometimes at redlights when the gas pedal is not pressed. The code I am receiving is for the mass air flow system. I tried mass air flow cleaner and to no avail nothing changed. I've seen many of these issues with several different possible outcomes, but no real answer. Has anyone been able to put finger to the cause or at least come close?
Grab a MAF from a junkyard and stick it in... a lot of them fail in a way that no amount of MAF cleaner will fix. You can try just unplugging it as well, I believe these cars will stay running w/o a MAF sensor
usually when a new MAF doesnt fix the issue its an electrical connection problem in which case the most common fix is to ziptie the wire to the MAF body, putting tension on the connector.

It won't if the sensor is working, the engine will stall immediately if the sensor is disconnected. If the engine has other failures the MAf will not allow the engine to run. Disconnecting the MAF will allow you to drive it enough to get to a repair shop.fn42 wrote:I believe these cars will stay running w/o a MAF sensor
