THis is my first time to this forum so hello everyone. I thank you in advance for reading and hope you can help me.
Basically, the throttle stop screw has been fiddled with - and yes, I accpet all slaps to the face for doing what one should never do.
But, it's done - that throttle stop has been screwed in and out more times than a...ahem...
By this I mean, the little screw on the throttle body, usually painted with blue gum or something - presumably to stop it from moving in its position (and to act as a "don't touch this!" for the curious DIYer)
Ages ago, the idle was misbehaving - and I found teh culprit to be the timing out by two teeth and a faulty MAF sensor...However, in reaching that conclusion, the throttle stop screw was messed with by a well meaning friend...doh!
So, I wonder if anyone out there has an untampered with S40 (2001) mkI petrol 1.8 B4184S2 engine that could render some assistance and save me a lot of time trying to get this in the right place.
My own theory is that the throttle stop screw is all important to the TPS and that if the Throttle Stop screw isn't in the factory position, there will be some confusion between in the ECU.
So, could someone please go out to their own cars and count the number of threads on the outside (the blue gummy bit) of the throttle stop screw - this would enable me to reset mine to the right position and work from there.
Please guys help me out here
I'm so desperate I've been flaggin down any S40 I see on the street - but it's hard finidng folks with a 16 year old car...The local dealer is cr*p and seems to employ OBDII SCANTOOL "fitters" rather than mechanics - have checked four indie garages but they don't know either.
Buying a brand new TB seems a little excessive and, unfortunately, whatever money I had for the car has been exhausted by incompetent garages and their bull. having said that, however, it very well may be on the xmas list.
My beautiful other half has commandeered our other volvo - but I refuse to give up on this old gal - we've been through a lot and I'm loyal to a fault with my aging machines. BEside, she still runs like a tank.
THanks folks for reading through this I hope someone can offer assistance.
PS I've heard that these TB have a baseline idle...presumably with the throttle cable disconencted...somewhere I read that this was 600rpm...imagine that once the cable is attached on the otehr side of the butterfly, this would go up to the recommended 720.
I'm happy to go with the "thread count" for the time being...until I get her plugged in for the really fine tuning (but that's not an option til the 6th)
Thanks from Ireland
