Help with identifying part

Hello,

I am having some (okay, a lot) of trouble with my 2005 volvo v70 non-turbo. almost at 170k miles.

The shop said that I needed an exhaust manifold as well as a catalytic converter. Going to get that done at the end of the month at my hometown shop about 450 miles away. I don't need to drive it much before then, but I do need to make it there.

So, the shop said I could drive it the rest of the month and it should not be a problem. Then I start hearing a scary, low pitched noise from the front. I checked all the fluids, and did a visual inspection and it looks like this hose is cracked. Not sure if it could be causing the noise but worth getting it replaced as it looks like it could be an easy DIY. Thoughts? Comments? What is this part?

You can just repair this foil hose with whatever you have in your garage.

What trouble you have? Record or describe the noise.

Thank you very much for the response. Do you think I can duct tape this hose?

The noise is ONLY on acceleration, and I think that it has something to do with the exhaust manifold leak or catalytic converter leak.

I don't think it has to do with this hose upon further reading on the forums. My understanding is this hose heats up the engine or something so I don't think it would ONLY cause noise when accelerating.

I have a lot to learn about cars... until then, I will be biking! I hope it makes the trip!!

Check engine mounts, usually upper and lower mounts fails together at these mileage. Right engine mount can fail too (sits behind passenger wheel).

If that tube tore, then you will want to check for bad mounts. If the powertrain moves more than it should in normal operation, it can tug at other parts causing premature failures from the undue stress.

That hose just directs warm air to your air cleaner to regulate intake air temperature. You can ignore that split until you have time. Give the engine a shake while looking at the top mount ( metal thing on top with rubber bushings)

Drive it home gently until you get your manifold done
