Still struggling to get the 93 850 started for those who might have read my post.
Today was more hopeful, with a few encouraging pops before the battery died; it was low anyway.
I swapped in a fuel pump I've had laying around for a few years. I'm getting power to pump which hums when the key is turned on.
About the question: I think I remember a discussion about rebuilding a fuel pump with a kit but don't recall if anybody had done it successfully. If you have knowledge of this, please share.
The ECT. After reading cn90's post listing a range of resistance values for the coolant temp sensor, I measured mine. Ambient temp was in high 30's today and of course engine hadn't been running.
The ohm reading I got on my analog meter was around 3900. It should be around 6k according to cn90's table, also verified online.
Is that enough of a difference to prevent a cold start?
Re: brand. The SWF coolant temp sensor is available locally for around $60.00.
The FAE brand can be had for less than $20.00. But is the FAE trustworthy?
850's new FP or rebuild? FAE ECT?

Nothing else will work on these cars.

Not a Volvo, but I rebuilt a fuel pump for a different Swedish car. I replaced the failed OEM Walbro electric fuel pump with another Walbro and had no problems with it. It came with a replacement rubber mounting donut. It came with instructions, was not a difficult repair, and was much cheaper than purchase of the whole fuel pump assembly. During the process I learned that gasoline is not a good electrical conductor.JimBee wrote: I swapped in a fuel pump I've had laying around for a few years. Les is more.
FAE may be a roll of the dice. If it works out of the box now, it might fail in short time; at a time with less convenience to replace.
Fumes from gasoline makes a great conductor...kranz wrote:During the process I learned that gasoline is not a good electrical conductor.

Don't know about the conductive properties of gasoline fumes, but they are easily combustible. They would require a spark to get going.beigg wrote:Fumes from gasoline makes a great conductor...

Walbro WAS OEM for the other Swedish manufacturer's product that I mentioned I was repairing. From my experience they made a good product, and if they make a replacement for VOLVo pumps, it might make a suitable replacement.misha wrote:[quote="kranzWalbro was NEVER OEM for Volvo.

Volvo oem fuel pumps are made by Bosch.
Replacements can be from Bosch,Hella,Walbro,Pierburg,Siemens....whole assembly or just an insert.
Walbro is making performance fuel pumps too and have a good reputation as long as it's not a cheap chineese copy.
You don't need to replace the whole assembly....just the insert and oem Bosch is also available from Volvo.
