I just sent Henry my email in a PM. I'll be looking for his response. Much thanks.

I have a junkyard CEM, but I gather it will have to be reprogrammed from scratch.

Some but not all CEM programming is unique to each car. Obviously things like key codes are unique however 2 CEMs from the same model/year will have some different information such as option information like retracting mirrors/heated seats/factory sunroof/VIN number/DSTC/STC info.
With the junkyard CEM the car will be a Jekyll/Hyde when at the dealer showing donor car's VIN and mileage so avoid this if possible.
Once you have a DICE and you install Vida you can do all the resets/code clearing yourself anyway. Most of us here that own P2s have VIDA/DICE. Personally I haven't seen a dealership in 5 years with over 6 different Vida compatible cars owned.

Precopster- thanks for the information. The junkyard CEM is just one to be wiped and reprogrammed. I know it won't work. I may try to buy the almost working CEM from my mechanic.
So could you tell me more about DICE/ VIDA- I mean, will it program a CEM from scratch? .. I have no problem with getting the VIDA / DICE rig, if that is what it takes. I'd rather have someone who knows how to do this (anybody around Winston Salem, NC?) do the programming, but I can learn it myself.

Henry does the programming through a Dice interface box connected to your PC laptop through the internet. You'll need to tether a mobile through 3G/4G to the laptop's wireless connection. He has his own software for the purpose of communication that he'll link you to. Vida is not used for CEM programming in your case. Vida bought over internet is unlicensed if not bought from Volvo directly and even if it were it can't program used CEMs. Henry will ask you to short 2 pins on a certain IC on the CEM in order to enter bootloader mode. After that he can program.
Your mechanic should sell the CEM to you for cost price because it is of zero value to a dealer or anyone else who wants to use it because of unmatching immobiliser codes to any car it's fitted to. He may value it as a test mule though. In any case if he won't part with it just get another junkyard one.
If this all seems too complex now is the time to quit

not complex, just full of bumps .... IC work is simple for me as long as it isn't surface mount..
I have a junkyard CEM already. I don't know if it was tried in the car, but i think my mechanic would sell me his for a nominal cost.
Henry passed the job onto "Yagger". No response from him yet..

First steps taken. New un-programmed key needed and something to be done to the junkyard CEM. Yagger is very helpful and patient. So far, everything that has to be done to make it run is doable, but there are a lot of hoops to jump through..Going deep into the weeds......
