Attaching belt pulley wheel to alternator armature shaft

2002 C70 – 2.4 – 82K
Belt pulley wheel has disengaged from alternator, making alternator dysfunctional.
First obvious and most expensive choice = replace alternator. We know what that costs.
Second choice…MAYBE…re-attach pulley wheel to apparently good alternator.
Local Volvo parts rep. says pulley is self- threaded to armature shaft and requires special spline tool to re-attach.
Internet parts supplier says a replacement pulley kit comes with nut and washer to re-attach replacement pulley.
Anybody got a clue? Thanks, in advance
