P0811 Code

Looking at a used 2005 XC70 that is advertised with transmission shift problems 3>2. Sadly, the car has no history nor does the current owner know when the timing belt was changed. Anyway, I have been sitting around with no project car going, so I thought I might have a look at it. The timing belt won't be a problem for me to do straight away. What has me puzzled is the powertrain cel code P0811 Excessive Clutch Slippage A. With all the reading I have been doing on the AW55 valvebodies, I don't recall seeing this code being related. Would this code be a symptom of the Linear solenoids modulating low pressure? The price the seller is asking would allow me to replace with a reman VB and timing belt, water pump, etc and still be well below market price. I realize that a teardown would be the only definitive way to determine the slippage, but does anyone have an experience they can share with this particular (and only) code? Thanks in advance!

I have researched this code extensively and still haven't had any luck finding information on P0811. Has nobody run across this issue. The car is still driving pretty well, but shift quality is poor. I am all for saving this beauty. If there is a good possibility that a VB would cure, I could always use a winter car. Anyone have a thought?

Naturally you neglected to post the mileage but that code is a transmission DEATH CODE.
A valvebody will do no good
Tranny needs to be rebuilt or replaced

JRL, thanks for the reply. Indeed, I failed to include the mileage - 147,000. That's all I needed to hear. I'm sure there are plenty others out there with issues that require less intrusive repairs.
