2000 V70 NA 5 speed auto PNP switch recommendation

Post by scot850 »

I am looking at a 2000 V70 Base 5 speed auto that may have a failing PNP switch. On completion of diagnostics, assuming that is the reason for the flashing orange arrow, are there any PNP switches sold (other than Volvo OE) that are a more reasonably priced alternate? I have looked to PnP but there is a shortage of P80's out there just now. FCP has an OE Volvo part and a Professional Parts Sweden item (I won't go near their stuff unless I can be assured it works ok). Are there other brands?

Thanks,

Neil.

If my 99 hasn't gone yet I could still scavenge one from my parts car? How hard is it to yank off?

No idea as I have never removed one. Plus the 5 speed auto has a different PNP as far as I tell to the 4 speed. It looks like an electronic connector rather than a cable. May be wrong ( it does happen!).

I think the part # is : 9495007 for the 5 speed.

Maybe someone knows different out there?! Good news it is a lot cheaper than the 4 speed version. It retails at several places at $100 US. Appreciate the kind offer.

Just service the PnP Neil. You can do this without removing it totally from the car.

The removal procedure is as arduous as any other PnP switch I would imagine however haven't had to remove mine after 355K kilometres. Hope that it IS the PnP and not a faulty transmission.

That is a possibility Mike as it is a NA so more room to work than a turbo in that area. At the moment unfortunately it is a moot point as the person who has the car has not got back to me on selling the car after diagnostic, let alone selling that car at all. Very frustrating as they were the one who approached me and said they would get back to me yesterday.

Sometimes people really drive me mad (der?), why do the advertise stuff for sale and then become impossible to contact or to meet to buy stuff. There is a young guy (former Volvo apprentice) who has to move soon and has advertised a bunch on new unused Volvo parts for upto 98 models (I don't have one). Whilst not a bargain they are reasonable enough to go into the stash. I have tried for 4 days to organise collecting the parts and he always has to be somewhere else, even after agreeing to meet at a particular time. A well clearly his time is more important then mine so I can spend that money on my bottomless (V70R) pit on yet more suspension parts to rid the groaning or our son's XC70!

I performed the PnP service on our (non turbo) 850 when we owned it afew years ago and it was tight but do-able. The 2000 model is a different part number however the construction looks identical so servicing it should be the same.

I know what you mean about trying to organise things especially afew days before Xmas. Everybody seems to forget themselves.
