Hi,
I'm having problems with my power windows--specifically the passenger side and the rear doors (used less often). About three months ago I had them serviced by Volvo--all four windows were functional and there are no problems with the power lines. But every so often the windows (the driver window exclusive) won't open at all. The Volvo engineer could only recommend that I "excercise" the motors more often.
Has anyone tried greasing the gears that operate the arm?

I've never greased the windows but my 740 has a loose wire in the fuse box compartment that causes the same kind of problem. If I reach in and move it the windows will work. You may have the same issue happening! Give your wires a wiggle while working the switches and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply, I had the motors replaced with scraped parts from another 740 - what a bargain you could get if you develop a relationship with the mechanic! It feels great to have all 4 windows operational...
Before the replacement, I paid 1.0 man-hour (NT$ 788 or USD 24) for the OEM Volvo people to wiggle the wires around a bit inside the door panels, as you suggested. Of course, that didn't last very long - a few months later I lost 2 of those windows again - the Volvo people claims that I just don't work them out enough. Naturally they're anxious to get me brand new sets of motors.. $$$
The non-OEM Volvo mechanic I visit nowadays not only gave me working condition motors, but also installed an automatic switch relay for the driver window.
