just redid crankcase vent pipes. in the process you have to remove the fuel injectors, intake manifold, throttle housing with associated vacuum hoses and a few other small items. while there i went ahead and cleaned a really dirty throttle plate and replaced the corroded distr cap and rotor button. it wouldn't idle right at first but with the help of a nice neighbor from tennessee on this site (made in japan) it now idles fine. but i now have a skip, the one that gives that "puffing" out of the exhaust pipe. in the old days we would probably attribute that to a bad plug wire or spark plug or the points. i thought maybe something with an injector. a diagnostic doesn't give any errors on this. any ideas? the engine didn't do this before i went in.

I would say bad wire....or could be partially clogged injector. I think you're on the right track with the old-line thinking there.
