You are very right about that. I was fortunate the owner had left the car with me for a few days to go over it prior to purchase. I know from bitter experience that you never know all the issues until you drive them for a while. I hope I have found the main issues but do find a lot of smaller issues can add up very quickly! I'm just hoping that I have learned enough from experience where most of the issues occur. My 2000 'R' does continues to prove you never are able to fix all the issues no matter how much you throw at it.

Spent yesterday thanking the Volvo Gods for engine access after spending 6 hours on a BMW i6 PCV and IM. Every PCV hose was fused by age so the nice snap clips just broke and I had to Dremel them off. At least I was smart enough not to yank on them and break expensive engine parts.

So what is everyone up to? :D

Hi,

Yeah i agree it is interesting to hear what everyone has been up to with their Volvos.

Today i *looked* at mine parked in the driveway from out the window. Does that count? :-)

Seriously though i soon intend to try to replace the windshield delay relay so that i can get variable delay because the stock relay only does one set delay time and it is definitely not adequate for various changing rain conditions when driving. I was very very surprised to find out that Volvo did not do this already. That seems very strange since they dont seem to leave things out. Also, i know this was a known issue since before 1988 (and this Volvo is a 1998 ten years later) so i cant see what could have made them leave out the variable delay, in any form, which could have been a simple adjustable potentiometer like a volume control like my old 1988 Hyundai had. Some things they did just dont make sense. But anyway, probably tomorrow i will get out there again to find it and maybe remove it and examine it to see what it looks like close up.

Im going to go read some of the other replies to this thread now.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Hi,

Wow, interesting pictures there :-)

So i guess you dont need a window scraper or defroster in the winter then? (ha ha).
You could try a good quality motorcycle helmet with front face shield :-)
Also, stick a big flashlight in the drivers side headlight hole :-)

That's actually one of my favorite Volvo body models and color too. Ive seen a couple around town in the past, same color too, very nice clean style. I like that style better than the 1998 style which is more rounded.

Haven't been on here in a couple days... wish the email notification was fixed!
Anyway, last week I finally put in my home made boost controller! I'm running 9 psi right now, and the car has never run better! The car feels much faster than before.

Today I plan on gathering the supplies and parts to prepare for a trailer hitch build and install. My 94 850 has been a trooper. I paid $300 and got it in terrible condition. I planned to use it as a stepping stone vehicle and replace it with something"better" as soon as I could afford it. Well it has become the BETTER vehicle and will continue to hold that spot. I have never owned a vehicle that has passed the 300,000 mile mark and runs like a new car. This car runs so well that no matter what goes bad on it I plan on repairing it till the bitter end and then rebuild it and start all over again. When I first posted on this forum I was told to run it till the wheels fall off, and it wasn't worth the effort, money, or time to improve it from it's poor condition. Well all I can say is IT'S MINE FOREVER AND NO YOU CAN'T BUY IT!! HAHAHA
