Help me sort out this issue with the HVAC vents

Post by enriquepr21 »

Good night all,

In My 2003 S60 air is not flowing through the vents when having the outside air or recirculating option enabled, however, it works when using a/c as i can feel air running through the vents. Why would it work with a/c only? Also i found this plastic tube by the passenger side close to the Center console and it seems it's missing a duct piece

I don't have a schematic of the P2 climate motor, but on the P80 the AC evaporator ( cooler) is the first thing the air hits. The flow is determined by the flaps down stream. I think the P2 is the same. Stay tuned

Looks like it got disconnected, not exactly easy to press back on. It's for the floor heat.

As for the climate unit, it may be a broken swirl arm, or the motors need calibrated

I removed the cabin air filter just to test but air still doesn't flow through the center vents or any vent.

Air does flow when selecting a/c, it only stops flowing when recirculating or outside air only is selected.. am i missing something here?

So upon close inspection the air does flow when having recirculating or outside air mode ON (no a/c nor fan) but it flows very little even when going at moderate speed. Is this normal? Or could there be something severely affecting air flowing through vents?

I'm confused Enrique.

The system has two modes...recirc ( inside air) or outside air. Which one gives you flow when the car is stopped?

I'm sorry for the confusion, maybe i didn't explain correctly

With all my other cars i can feel wind blowing through the vents when going at some speed, this is with the outside air option, but with the S60 i feel very little airflow through the vents on outside air mode even going at high speeds.

When i turn on the blower or a/c air does flow but also very weak. I already removed the cabin air filter but no improvement. What else can i check? I think the air flow is being restricted somehow

Ok..you either have the AC evaporator or the heater core plugged, and probably it's the AC evaporator. All the air has to go through that. Maybe remove the cabin filter and try to vacuum out debris with a skinny hose?
