Be careful running the tank low. For some reason on volvospeed there was a rash of fuel pumps dying when the tanks got real low.

I agree...especially in the summer....the fuel acts as a cooling device for the pump, not to mention the contaminants you run through it when the tank runs low. Get in the habit of filling up BEFORE the low fuel light comes on. You can still calculate your milage by knowing the size of your tank (18 gallons) vs. how much you used (it took to fill up).

No. The reading is variable depending on how, and where, you are driving the car.

When I first bought my car. I filled the tank and the gauge told me I had enough fuel for 410 miles. My total journey was to be 380 miles, give or take a few. Most of it was on motorways sitting at 70mph in 5th gear. At the end of the journey I was showing enough fuel to do 150miles.

I always have, and still do, fill the tank after I have done about 200 miles. That journey was the exception to my rule. I trust neither that device nor fuel gauges.
