intermittent stalling

my 1991 740 has been stalling while driving for the last 12 months. the car starts normally and drives fine when the engine will quit. I wait for about 30 to 90 secs and the car will start and act normal. i was told by the repair shop that since the car didn't stall while in their possession and no error codes were seen, they couldn't do anything. For the past 54 days the car has quit 35 times in all kinds of weather and road conditions. Sometimes it will quit 5 times within 30 minutes and then run fine for 3-7 days.
