Hello all,
I don't mean to bombard the board with too many questions, but I am still trying to figure out my S60. I really didn't have any issues with old V70 and it's making me wonder why this one is so much more problematic (it's like my old Swedish Saab vs. the later GM model).
Anyway, we've been getting an unprecedented amount of rain here in Northern Nevada over the last few weeks. I've noticed now on two occasions that I've had water on my passenger's side floor mat and under the mat. The water is coming from a length of rubber hose about 7 or 8 inches long that runs underneath the glovebox. I am assuming this is a hose that is part of the sunroof drain? I pulled some of the carpet back tonight and felt the hose and it was all wet. The water seems to be coming from the upper nipple that the hose connects to, the lower nipple seems to exit to the bottom of the car.
I am wonder what might be causing this and how I can fix it? The hose doesn't seem to be worn out of anything either as far as I can tell. Has anyone else experienced this problem and had any luck remedying it? Interestingly enough it happen one night when it was pouring and I hit a few puddles and then again tonight where it was sort of the same situation. Two mornings ago though it was coming down in sheets, I parked the car outside at the gym, worked out for two hours and came out to a dry floor. I am not sure why it happens sometimes and not others. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The HVAC intake system draws from the front cowl (black plastic cover in front of windshield), down into the HVAC housing, then thru the cabin air filter, to the blower, evaporator, heating core, mode door, ducting and finally to the various vents around the car.
Normally, the vast majority of outside water is routed away from the HVAC inlet by design of the cowl. So first I'd check if your cowl is free and clear. When you pour water into the cowl does it drain onto the street by the front fenders? When it leaked vs. not was the parked car oriented differently on a slope for example?
The rubber hose under the HVAC system (under the glove box) is designed to drain water from the evaporator, which normally is a trickle of water. It is not designed to handle the deluge from rain.
If rain is getting down into your HVAC system, I can guarantee leaves and other stuff from the cowl are too. I bet the cabin air filter is soaked and full of gunk. Why not pull out the cabin air filter and take a look. Blow air thru the hose and make sure it's free and clear. While you're at it, have someone pour water into the cowl and see if you can get it to drain into the car.

And you know come to think of it, the two times it leaked I may have been parked on a slight decline, the other time it may have been more flat. It has happened two times at the gym in the parking lot there, which is uneven. I have it out there this morning and it is pouring again. Guess I'll know in a few hours what's happening. Thanks again for the reply, it is very helpful.

There are about 10 places where water leaks inside the cabin, on top or under the carpet. On top of what was mentioned above, check bottom cabin blower cover for not missing screws (5) and his drain hose for clear, cabin air filter cover is not bent (won't seal properly), door seals, this , then there is a possibility the windshield seal is leaking somewhere. The best is to grab a torch and look above the feet place for droplets or evidence of water leaking.

I poured water onto the cowl this morning only to have it leak out under the car. Additionally, I pulled the cabin filter only to find it dry as a bone with no abnormal build up. I decided to tighten up the blower motor assembly while I was down there and made sure the cabin filter cover was on there tight and secure. I am not sure where this water might be coming from. I guess I could check the doors as well to be sure.

One way to find, get some toilet paper, and place it all around under the dash. Then see where it got wet.

I had the SAME problem - water pouring into passenger footwell and even the rear footwell - thought it was the sunroof til my climate fan blew. Opened it to find blower motor full of water. Looked for source and removed cowl - the air recirculation flaps let it in open or closed, there is no cover over it - like a tent cover or cap - it is obvious a part of this housing is missing. What is it - name? part number? I have a 2001 v70.
