Volvo Repair Database How to read an engine on Craigslist...

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

Sorry, this is just for the N/A folks out there...

What do you all look for in a Craigslist posting picture? This is how I break down what I'm looking at. :D

What else do you guys look for in these images? (I know there's a lot that needs to be scrutinized beyond a picture, but would love to get some more insight from you all!)

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

Greetings. In pics I look at where the car is parked ( garage, backyard, open field). What shape are the other cars in the salers pics. Are there pics of the drivers seat or just pics of rears. Debris in wiper area. Real plates or paper plates. Paper plates on a car being sold by a non dealer says " car flip" to me. Was clutter ( soda cans, food wrappers ) removed. Floor mats in place or stained carpet. Oil stains in driveway. Oil or transmission fluid bottles.
The surroundings in the background of a pic can give an idea of how the car was cared for and the type of person the poster is.

Nice, Marco.

I wrote a quick post about three years ago on how not to get scammed while buying a Volvo on Craigslist.

Craigslist Volvo Ad – When Something’s Not Quite… Right

For those eyeing a used Volvo purchase (or parts or tools), here's the VRD Volvo Buyer's Guide category.

By the oil over the engine top cover and the dirty brake fluid reservoir, it's the kind of car that gets at best an oil change now and then. Read quite neglected.

That's exactly what I was thinking...

It's a $500 N/A, at best. Seller wants $900.
