I remove the foot rest and the 2 front seat bolts to pull the carpet.

I have replaced a few- take the new one and pressure wash it and let it dry in the sun oddly I have found some cars have 2 carpets with the passenger attached to the rear and some where there are 3 - they are interchangeable though- the worst issue I had was one with a sunroof leak where all that foam was sopping, I ended up cutting it into pieces removing it and squisihing all the liquid out then taping together with siding tape- red stuff is incredibly sticky and strong

I've always wished there was a rubber floor mat replacement for the carpet like in a work truck. To me the rubber is the best. I had a Jeep Cherokee 1984 that was essentially a rust free CA car that I removed all the carpet from. Underneath was just shiny clean red sheet metal. Dropped in some cheapo rubber mats from Autozone and life was great.

Don't you have the fitted rubber floor mats in your Volvo? I have several spare sets in gray/black or beige if I recall.
