Power steering fluid

Hi there,

I'm a new owner of a 2004 S80 2.9 after my 1997 850 with 261k miles was totaled. I also had a 2004 V70.

Besides the engine being different, this engine bay looks a lot like my old V70 and I remember that in regards to the power steering fluid there was an error in the manual.
The manuals said Dexron III while it should have been Pentosin CHF 202.

I'm going to replace all fluids so want to make sure I use the right one for the power steering.
For this model, is it Dexron III or Pentosin CHF202?

My 2004 S80 T6 just had a new steering rack installed by my Volvo dealer last week and I just looked at the fluid in the tank and it is clear not red. I am sure that the dealership used the correct fluid. Dextron would be red in color? The old fluid was clear when the car was new, but turned slightly yellow with age. I hope this helps, June

After getting a private message about the steering fluid I thought it best to add photos of what mine looks like and the portion bill for the replacement of the rack at my Volvo dealer who returned my car March 18, 2017. They definitely did not put red fluid in, the bill has a part number with a thirty something dollar charge for the fluid. I am lucky that Osteen Volvo Service is excellent as was Tampa Volvo when I lived down there because I am sure not all dealers are so careful like putting cheaper transmission fluid in the power steering rather than the correct clear oil. I assume there is a difference since the factory fill was clear. June

Last night I flushed the fluid with Pentosin CHf 202 and now the steering makes noise.
So I guess I will flush it again tonight with good old Dexron.
