Hello everyone. I have a XC90 2008 3.2 with a/c issues, which is known by many here. The a/c will only start to get cold after a while. About a year ago it was taking about 2-3 minutes to get cold, now it's around 8-10 minutes. So I decided to replace the solenoid before gets really hot here in South Florida. So here we go:
Evacuated the system for an hour; left for 2 hours to check any leaks; vacuum still reading 0.29; started engine and turned on both a/c (front and rear); vents in maximum circulation; first can of r134a 12oz goes all the way in about 5 minutes but compressor still not engaged; gauges >> low=25 psi - high=70 psi; started second can and maybe half hour later still half of it and compressor still off; now gauges low=80 and high=120. I started to think something went wrong and shut all valves and turned the car off. After check all connections I started the car again as well both a/c; now the compressor is engaged and gauges on low=65 and high=100; while still with the second can connected I went check the solenoid; unplugging the solenoid drops around 5 psi on each side (low and high) so my guess the solenoid is working fine, right?!; after 15 more minutes gauges now are low =90 and high=135. I decided to stop everything and check online for more information. Now 1 day later I plugged the gauges again and both low and high are about the same around 80 psi with both a/c on and 1500rpm. So after that I'm giving up and asking for help. Any ideas what could be the problem??

The compressor is either not turning on or it is internally worn/damaged.
The low side should drop to about 30 with compressor engaged on and high side will be about 2x ambient temp in F. so of its 80F -and compressor is running you would ecpect to see 30 low and 160 or higher on high side.
I assume you are seeing the magnetic clutch be pulled in and are taking readings with the compressor running.

Yes, just checked again and it's about the same with clutch engaged low and high around 80 psi.JDS60R wrote: ↑08 Apr 2017, 20:47 The compressor is either not turning on or it is internally worn/damaged.

Is there a chance that I messed up with the compressor?? Because as I said it was working with same delay when the car was cold and I just replaced the solenoid.

I'm closing the thread as I finally have my a/c blowing cold air again. It was a defective solenoid that was replaced by the vendor
New readings @ 77°F and 59% humidity low=42 and high=190
