2003 V40: Front brake shield replacement / pull front wheel hub

Post by scdk »

I need to replace my front brake shields, as they are rusted to the point of falling apart.

To get there I will need to pull the wheel hub, unless there is some magic way of getting it on there without doing this :)

This is made more difficult by the wheel bearing being seated directly in the steering knuckle: I cant just take off a wheel bearing & hub assembly, but will have to pull the wheel hub from the wheel bearing.

To do that I have the following in mind:
- Pull the hub using something like this kit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/PIECE-SLIDE-HA ... 001RD7M28/
- When done, press the wheel hub back into the bearing using something like this kit: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00BVZN6RM/

My questions to you are:
- Have any of you tried this and have any good advice?
- Should I be worried that I will pull the bearing apart during the first step and just order a set of new front wheel bearings?

Cheers!
