question on rt frt engine mount under crank

Post by jeffc »

I have a broken right frt engine mount on my 2000v70r. I've looked online and for the
R model it cost twice as much. It looks no different than the one I changed in my '98 xc so could anyone explain why it's more or why I cant use a basic 70 mount?

Hi jeffc,
Nice to meet you.

You talking about this mount? It looks totally different from the "regular" V/S70 side engine mount. Look at that extra plate there. Compare it to the "regular" mount.

This is the "regular" mount.

Can't really think why the 'R' version is different. Looking at Vida this is used on all the V70/S70 AWD models from 98-00, not just the 'R'. I originally thought it may be due to the change in position of the oil cooler in 99 (which may tie in with the chassis range of 540001 - ). The AWD engines may need the stronger mount as they don't have the center rear mount of the FWD models for support. They only have a small buffer mount that limits reward motion (it is not a solid mount) and then the AWD have a 2nd, smaller mount on the outside rear of the transmission the FWD do not have. So this mount has to take more stress would be my thought, but why it is thicker, I can only think it may be an additional vibration damper?

And... Every 99-2000 awd mount that I've bought comes with that plate in the box loosely.

Over the years, I have noticed that the Right Engine mounts all "look the same" from the photos.
Yet, they have different PNs.
I wonder if they are all the same, i.e., interchangeable.

don't know about an AWD/R model but I can tell you I have been driving with an febi/bilstein mount on my 2002 c70 that supposedly only fits 850 models...

On the 850 there is a mount style change in 95, with a VIN break. You can use the different style across the break if you also swap over the mounting bracket on the engine. In other words the block and subframe didn't change, the mount and mounting plate changed together.

I have a brand-new VOLVO OEM Genuine Engine Mount 8618549.
This is genuine Volvo mount, not aftermarket.
New is $125 at dealer.

Check to see if 8618549 fits your car.
I can send it to you for 50% off, around $65 free shipping to lower 48 states.
