Absolutely. It's a great $10 fix! (Unless of course you have all sorts of fancy hoses and clips lying around! )

Here's a Youtube tutorial of the process. Anyone can do this. You don't even need any sandpaper, just lube it up.

OK -- I'm sensing the start of a new feature -- the "MVS McGyver Challenge." I'm thinking the first marker has already been laid down. . . And the paperclip-to-replace-fuel-pump-relay has already been ruled ineligible.

Is this a repair you've done or one you've seen? Warning...I've spent a lot of time in Eastern Europe.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread but I have a question. Does anyone know the outside diameter of the bushing, not the lip but the contact surface, and also the inside diameter. I used to have them in my old 850 and wondering if I can use them for another application (2006 Mazda 6). The bushings cant be replaced either. It looks close in size but want to be 100% Thanks!

OD = ~22mm. I will try to get an ID tonight.

FWIW: I got these... can't really tell a difference. had brass bushings for a few hundred miles (came with the car) and they were nice and green.

Man, you guys are amazing. When I installed my cables a few weeks ago and felt the movement in my cable end bushings, I thought that was a good thing. But my shifting feels knotchy to 2nd and a little in 3rd. I guess I need to give this a try to get that smooth solid feel.

Do anyone know of the dimensions of a replacement bushing? I just looked at Roberts video about this:
He just used some generic skateboard ball bearing and I made a search on ebay. Some posts above this says the outer diameter is 22mm and I made a search on ebay for skateboard ball bearings 22mm. Almost every bearing that cam up is 22mm outer, 8mm inner and 7 width/lip. Could those fit? I could go out to my car and measure the existing ones, but I'm afraid that I'd break them if I take them off and then I can't shift until I get new ones. :D
