On my car I think it may be dry ball-joints in the control arms. RH is worse the LH. Strange thing is it mostly happens when turning left and sounds like it is coming from the RH suspension.

Yeah, mine isn't the power steering pump either. It's definitely a creaking of steering components, like a straining, stretching sound.
