Looks Normal but door remains unlocked

Post by Itw02 »

Hi all,

This is my first post, thank you in advance for the assistance!

I've been reading the forum looking for answers to this issue and haven't found one specifically addressing it, it seems there's a lot of topics about doors staying locked I'm having the opposite problem I can't get it to lock:

I have a 99 v70, the door lock seems to function completely normally with fob, key, door button or by manually pushing the door lock post, however if then you try to open the front passenger door from the outside it is in fact always unlocked (also setting off the alarm).

Seems like the door latch motor issue people experience when it's always locked, might not be the problem in this case. Thoughts?

There may be a way to fix it, but when mine failed
that way, I replaced the latch. Problem solved.

Strange. My cousin's '99 S70 will usually unlock the driver's door and the rear driver's side door, and the doors on the passenger side usually stay locked. The only solution there seems to be is replace the latch.
The door latches in these cars are awful. My rear doors (especially the passenger side) close fine, but the little red lights don't turn off sometimes and I have to repeatedly slam the door shut to make the car register that the door is indeed closed. So when it's cold out and I lock the car at night, the alarm goes off every now and again as the plastic is expanding and contracting, and the car thinks the door is being opened. It's incredibly annoying, so I try not to use the rear doors at all. Luckily they've been okay lately (also considering it's May).
