At least on my '97 850, I would consider the fan running for 3 minutes after the engine is off to be not normal.

Yeah, we had that issue on my wife's 855. It turned out to be a bad coolant temp sensor.

Not normal on 850 and s,v,c,xc70 up to '99.
It MUST turn OFF as soon as engine is turned off.

This can happen when ECT or it's wiring are bad or if aftermarket ECT is installed.

ONLY Volvo ECT or at least Vernet.

Volvo ECT is made by Valeo, but you can't find it under Valeo part#.

After new original gearbox oil replaced, the transmission seem haywire, is that advisable to add in oil treatment ? If yes, which brand is most suitable for this Volvo 850 gearbox.

I had same problem. It was the fan controller /module attached to radiator. Simple fix in concept, but, tough to get at the small screw. and to seat the module on install. But, it can be done w/ out removing the radiator. Harbor Freight sells a mini/thin screw bit drovwr ratchet, works well. And, You Tube = awesome !

Old thread alert. Unplugging the MAF on DENSO equipped cars seems to invoke the same symptom, fan afterrun.
