06 XC70_Crank No Start

I'm a newb to this forum and I've searched the web for my issue, so I'm hoping someone one here can point me in the right direction.

Problem: 06 XC70 - intermittent crank but no start.

My wife's 06 has a couple times now on hot days, after having been driven for a while and then stopped to get gas or run into the store, not been able to be restarted. It will crank but not start. Fuel pressure on the rail and fuses check out. From what I could tell the grounds are all good. I'm thinking it's a wiring issue or maybe a temp issue. In all cases it's happened, I can let it sit for an hour or so and then it will start no issues. Also, it has only happened 3 times now and we've had a lot of hot days, so I'm guessing a temp sensor is going bad or I have wiring on the verge of failure.

Could it be the fan to the ECM and TCM that's going bad?

Has anyone seen this? My 03 XC70 has not had this issue at all.

Yeah... the HOT days are neigh!!! My DIM decided to start scrolling hieroglyphics intermittently with the first of the 90F days here in NC!!

Could be heat soaking one of the modules and causing issues. I presume you do not have VIDA/DICE to be able to read it when it fails? Are there any error warnings in the text window? Can you pull up the simple DTC reader (in the text display) and see if any DTCs are set?

You're going to be getting a lot of WAGs without some data to base those guesses off. Might try the XeMODeX Hair Drier trick and see if any issues can be made to happen on cue by heating the various modules. Heat seems to be the common fault.

When you have a no start, diagnose ignition from fuel problems first.

The P2s have had some issues with the fuel delivery (module that controls fuel pump, pressure sensor) so perhaps looking at the rail fuel pressure when it will not start will be a good place to commence.
