AC issues - 2002 S60

Help needed. Ok, so I have an 02 S60 and just today when we got into the car the ac fans were running. The car was off, but fans blowing out air. Now, I'm guessing it is an electrical issue, but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced the same problem. The air, when turned on, blows out cool. I have seen others comment that their ac stops blowing out cool air after a while, but this isnt the case here, at least we hope not yet. Thanks in advance

The P2 cars actually keep the fan on after shut down to dry out the evaporator and stop it from corroding..

Your car might not have any issue to repair. We still charge the same here , though.

Yeah... This one freaked me out the first time I had it happen.

I was under the car looking for oil leaks and the fans just come on for no reason! Bet it was funny to watch this big boy come out from under that car like a rabbit on caffeine!!!

A little searching on MVS and I find that they are programmable and can be set to come on at different intervals (if at all).

I like the idea of drying out the evap coil, but damn Volvo... give a guy a warning when it's going to come on!!

Is this S60 relatively new? If you have had it for a year or more and it never did this then you may have another issue.

The "afterblow" function is enabled to suppress biologicals growth that leads to foul odor from vents. This will only work if the a/c was operated for more than 15 minutes (all times approximate as different software versions tweak the times) and then vehicle is parked and ignition switch is off. Fan will come on approx 40 minutes later and run for 8-10 minutes.
If your fan came on much later or earlier than 40 minutes and ran for much longer than 10 minutes and battery went dead in order to make it stop then you have a problem and it is not afterblow feature.

This must vary greatly then as mine was much less than 40 minutes.

I want to say something like 10-15 minutes as I came back from a drive, jacked up the car, grabbed the parts and climbed under before the exhaust had stopped ticking.

If it's anything like our programming, then time, temp and usage would alter the event timing and duration. Summer temps, sooner and longer (humid)... Winter temps, later and shorter (dry), but that is a straight WAG!!

My 2002 S80 dash fan would come back on after maybe 10 minutes after shutting the engine down and ran no more than 10 minutes. It could have been 15 or 20 minutes after shut down as I frequently would catch it running. Definitely not 40 minutes. My 2004 is like 30 or 40 minutes. I almost never catch the 2004 running the afterblow feature. June

Ive recently had a very similiar issue with my 06 S60 2.5T. It was after a long drive and the weather was getting pretty hot around here. The fan would continue to blow, but not stop after an hour (Ive found it to be running after 4 hrs), it would run until the next time i got in the car. I had the battery die a couple of times and eventually pulled the fuse and dont have AC now. Now when I plug in back in, I get a faint blow when I turn the AC off, not sure if im imagining it or not. Does this sound like an error with the afterblow feature? I am afraid to leave the fuse in the case that I have a dead battery next time I need to go somewhere. How would one go about turning it off?

An '06 S60 2.5T I worked on for a while did this, and I found the problem to be the blower resistor module. Not sure why, but replacing that with a new one stopped it running for hours after turning off the car- it was chewing down the battery. After replacement it would cut on to dry out the evaporator and shut off appropriately.
