2005 v70 transmission issue

Post by koolhandluke »

Greetings all..2005 v70 na 157k that I've been having the typical delayed fwd engagement issue for about 1 1/2 years. Finally decided to try a set of Rostra linear solenoid and spend today doing that. Upon starting the car to do the relearn, I was greeted with a service transmission message and a MIL 0763 shift control c electrical. My delayed engagement seems much better, but it seem to be in a limp mode, behaving as if it's in winter mode, starting in a high gear and not shifting when underway. Any thoughts? I am anticipating pulling it apart again to double check connections and also to inspect the wiring on top of the case I knocked something off. Any thoughts from the gurus?....Steve

Connectors and also the way the solenoids were placed there. But mostly the connectors can be tricky. Was each solenoid adjusted accordingly prior to install?

Thanks for your reply...I wouldn't put it past myself to install one of those connectors upside down...a shame as the rest of the job seemed to go well...the Rostras are pre-adjusted..As you know,it's tight quarters in there and I'm old and blind. Can't wait to take it apart again...Anyone know which solenoid is corresponds to that 0763 shift control c fault code? Will it stop throwing codes if I correct any wiring issues?"

I think you need a refurbished valve body. Solenoids alone often don't fix the problem, valve body wears out and develops leaks too.

Since I've now had some practice, I have managed to tear this down again and discover that the wire was off of S3 shift solenoid and part of the connector retainer broke off apparently in my zeal to horse it out of there yesterday.(I ended up gaining more clearance rather than struggling, but alas the damage was done. I'll figure out something to secure that.I did notice a harsher reverse engagement initially yesterday, and am curious as to whether that will work itself out or I should drill some adjustment holes in the pan. Sure looks tough to get an Allen wrench in there once assembled. I realize that a valve body may be in my future at least now I'll know which one to order.
