1995 940turbo
I have never owned a Volvo. Considering 1995 940tubo with 90,000 miles as a third car for my children to drive. Appears in good shape. Well cared for car. Any words of advice from anyone who has experience with this model?
Fantastic cars, The 900 series is an updated version of the 700 series which was first introduced in 1985. There are no problems that I am aware of with that model, they have all been worked out. The only real percaution is with the turbo, when ruinning around the city there is nothing special you need to do, but after a run on the highway let the engine idle for 10-15 monutes to let the turbo cool down before turning the engine off. If you turn the engine off right after a highway run the heat in the turbo will immediatly burn the oil in the bearing, called coking. The next time the engine is started the turbo will not have any lubrication which will cause premature failure, if looked after the turbo will last 500,000 mile, but I have also seen them coke up in less than 75,000 miles.
The milage on the car you are looking at is very low and sounds like it could be a great deal.
Good luck

I am not a wrench but a very satisfied owner of a 1994 940 Turbo. I currently have 186,000 miles on car. I purchased it at 75,000 miles.
I have owned it 5 years and have had an incrediblely trouble free experience with the car. Very few repairs. Nothing major. No engine, transmission, or turbo problems. Mainly just regular maintenance done by a father - son Volvo shop close to me.
Best car, by far, I have ever owned.

Farrington -- thanks for that very straightforward explaination. Do you know which year or model Volvo stopped using gen 1 turbos and started using gen 2?
