New Sprayer Nozzle Streams Not Spray

Post by Oka »

Just replace one windshield sprayer nozzle. The old nozzle sprays in a fan-like form while the new one is just a straight stream (just like a pee).
Surprisingly, the stream is right at the lower part of the windshield; sure the latter can be adjusted easily. Both the old and the new nozzles have just one slot in the middle. Can I get this new nozzle spray like the old one?

Thanks.

Not really, these can't be adjusted. There is a small plastic piece at the exit but it's usually stuck and will get damaged if pulled with a needle. Best is to get used ones from Ebay or a scrap yard.

Guess I will get them from the scrap yard. The two sets I bought from both eeuroparts and FCPEuro were all streaming straight (not spreading on the windshield). What a shame. Is this a new Volvo Format? If it is, it does not make sense to me.

This thread is old but anyway... The hold tabs were broken on mine too. I tried replacing with aftermarket and got the stream. I put the originals back on and used a bit of foam packing material and some double sided tape between the hose connection and the underside of the hood panel to hold them in place. I'll probably need to redo the tape every once in awhile, but that's preferable to the the annoying stream that doesn't work as well in clearing the windshield and obstructs vision more while spraying because they're directed right in your forward line of vision.

That is what is really annoying about the stream. Guess, all new nozzles do the same. Will return it and find some from the wrecker.

My original one broke from the 90-bend so I can't just tape it. This is where you can see the ball bearing from the break point,
so, it's not really repairable.

Thanks for the input!

I concluded none of the aftermarket nozzles that specifically state they spray a horizontal fan pattern won't work because of the 90 degree bend necessary on these.
It probably wouldn't be that difficult to retrofit nozzles that attach to the wiper arms and just redo/reroute the hoses under the cowl. I would look at some other vehicle that does it this way already to gauge where to bring the hose through the cowl and how to loop it so that it doesn't get stretched when running the wipers.

Just epoxy the old broken disconnected nozzles to the hood so they stay put -or- do a little body/paint work and get rid of the holes altogether.

I might consider this someday. I grew up in the era when most domestic cars still used 'wet arms' and I miss it.

The detailer broke one of mine the end of last year and I had Volvo replace all three with new ones and the new replacements spray the same fan shape as the factory nozzles did. No difference at all. I would hate if they sprayed a stream too. June
