What brand, if any oil additive do you use?

Post by June »

I notice my Volvo dealer as well as my sister's Ford dealer is pushing this BG oil additive MOA in their oil changes. My Volvo owners manual have said use no additives in the oil. Yet I looked at my last change invoice and MOA was put in my engine again. I noticed in the past MOA causes the oil to become dark in fewer miles than just synthetic oil alone. My engine sounds normal and is running as smooth as glass like always.

Does anyone know anything about oil additive like MOA? Are additives good for engines? Or do they just end up clogging up the filter?

I would like to know if any of you mechanics out there recommend or use certain additives like MOA, STP, or whatever brand in Volvo engines. What do you use in your Volvo? June

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

When an OEM suggests to change oil/filter in a gazillion miles, do it in 1/2 gazillion miles.

People who change oil/filter before their suggested time, will have engines that last longer. As engines get older, more blow-by exists, so change intervals need to be increased.

When oil consumption goes up, STP® oil treatment may reduce consumption. Or find a cleaner that is poured into each cylinder, and then removed....assuming rings sticking on pistons.

Oil companies today have some fine oils....engines will last a long time on them, if oil/filter is changed, over and over, before OEMs' suggested change interval.

What kind of cleaner would this be?

Restore was the go to years ago when they were in cans. Haven't use them for sometime.

This is the go to for problematic engines - Smoke, oil consumption, lifter noise...

Recently found some at a great price $7.50 vs $12.20 so started back but just one bottle with each oil change for a additive package boost. I think I got the last of Paragon's 5W-30 inventory  .

The Lucas zinc additive quieted my 1991 740 Turbo camshaft after a few hundred miles. It was ticking loudly. I plan on adding to every oil change. June

Swepco + on ZDDP and Boron. Used it in my 98 S70 T5 then one winter got a little thick then went with 308 5W-40. Besides the recent 303 10W-30 purchase as a booster to oil changes I forgot I have another depending what I think the car may need at the time.
