So this topic is quite popular I have read almost all threads on this but still stuck. I just got a v70 and its in good shape 180k reasonably well taken care of. first time poster but been reading this site for like a week.
Problem: it throws a P0014 Code when engine is hot at startup
Problem: Idle is surging a little after a full oil change 7-800rmp
car drives fine otherwise.
Steps Taken: tested the cam sensor rear of engine swapped with new unit,
removed the solenoid tested and cleaned, repaired some brittle and damaged wire for it.
confirmed all timing marks for crank and the sprockets, timing belt documented new 30k ago looks good condition
messed with timing anyway moved the exhaust sprocket "back one tooth" on the belt (the marks for the exhaust cam dont line up DEAD NUTS on but hey I am trying to line up a mark on plastic cover so eh.. (note it didnt line up dead nuts before it was a little clockwise now its a little counter clockwise and when I say a little I mean less then a mil)
tensioner "appears" to be ok when cold its "in the middle of the notches"
reset ECU
changed oil, pulled out like 3-4q put in 6, after this the car was surging a little on idle didn't do this before.
car is still running just fine. when cold no code is thrown car runs just as expected. code is thrown at start of engine when hot every time.
since oil change engine has like 4 miles on it with some aggressive throttle romping, if I drive a little bit the idle serge disappears until next hot start.
never owned one of these CVV timed engines, my assumption is this.. that the exhaust cam is misaligned with the CVV gear because of those "three bolts"
I cant find clear process to adjust this.. documents say to "run it all the way clockwise till it bottoms out currently its about a 4mil gap from this adjustment recommendation from what I see online.. so my assumption is that the tooth I went back made up for about 1-2 mill of the adjustment error? I have no idea. rather not total the engine its still a good car.

With an unknown engine history it's likely the engine is sludged, which. Can mean high the solenoid and/or CVVT hub are not working, giving the P0014 code. I would run it for a few thousand on fresh oil, do a petroleum based engine flush like Bells, and change oil again and see if that clears it. Stay off the boost until you get this straight

thanks. I have since taken the time to get a cam Locking tool for setting timing.
I have timed the engine and set the CVVT pully to better position and the code cleared for most of the time. the code seems to return on early engine warm up..
The code will go pending here and there but not all the time.
I did a full flush once, the sludge level isnt zero but isnt horrible looking.

It seems related to the tenpature idler pulley the car throws the code when engine cold. When it's hot no codes.

Is the tensioner indicator in the right range for the ambient temperature? I know these aren't too sensitive but I'm grasping at straws

I have the same issue on my 02 2.4t awd after head work.
When I adjusted the ex cam fwd and back it comes up with new codes.
Going to clean vvt solenoid 1st
Then may do oil change, have cheap 10w30 that is in there after rebuild to allow flush, may do new filter again, maybe it caught crap
then will lock cams again and test.
Never had this issue on 2.5 or 2.3t engines
any advice welcomed.

I had the same issue right after doing a timing belt job and long story short, I had to borrow the cam locking tool from a friend to correct the issue. Cam sprockets weren't aligned with the rest of the cams and despite me "aligning" them all, I was still of (advanced).
Once I installed the tool in place, the marks were way off. Had to loosen the gears and put the marks where they belong.
Without that tool I was going to pull my hair out as I literally spent 3 days undoing the belt million times with the same results.
