1996 850R Lower Left Air Vent Rattle/Rubbing Sound

Post by wackenhut »

Hi

Has anyone had this experience related to the lower left air vent making a vibrating/rattling noise when driving? Not sure how to fix this. I decided to put my hand on it and push in and the noise seemed to have gone away. Unfortunately, I cant be leaving one hand on the vent.

Thank you.

Take the lower dash cover off, and you may have to take the knee bolster out too, and have a look up under the dash. Could be something has come loose and is resting on the air tube. It could be something that has been held in place by electrical tape and has now come loose with age.

Plus on what Scott posted...if no luck check the dash bolts in the engine compartment for tightness. If the bolts is loose and does not tighten then you have one of the dash mounts broken causing your rattle.

I popped out the lower vent and noticed that it has something to do with the open close flapper inside. Since I always have this in the open position, is there a way to remove this?

Thank you.

I can't recall the vents on an 850. Can you pot a picture of the offending item and we might be able to advise from there?

Hi,

So found the culprit and not sure the vest way to take care of it. When you take the vent out where the flapper connects to the turning wheel, if you put your finger there, the squeeking stops. I don't want to spray anything since I don't want to breathe it in being where the ac blowes out of. Any suggestions? Or would some spray be the best option or somehow figuring out how to remove.
