2000 S70, code 1550, after strut replacement
After changing struts, spring seats etc. i now have a code 1550. Both the check Engine light and ABS light are on. Every time I clear the CEL code, it comes back. The ABS light is always on. During the repairs I removed the ABS wheel sensor but never unpluggged any connectors. Not sure what to check at this point, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I would double check the wires on those ABS sensors. The wires could have pulled out of the connector from tension. Obviously make sure the connectors are plugged it correctly.

Is the wheel sensor seat firmly/completely in the well on the spinal? The 10mm bolt tightened? DId the tip of the sensor get any grease, oil or debris on the tip? When you removed the ABS cable from the old strut was it stretched while removing?

Go to the connector up on the strut and measure the sensor resistance across the two terminals. It should be about 1150+-250 Ohms (Ill find exact number from mattymoo at midwestABS and post)
...from his website - look familiar??

Wheel sensors. If you think you have a sensor issue, it should test out between 900-1380 ohms. Always check the plug going into the wheel sensors. They may not be plugged in all the way, they could be cracked or the wiring could be stressed. I've found that people that have recently had front end work done on their car routinely run into sensor problems. Why? People forget to unplug them, then when moving the steering knuckle out of the way they stress the connection. They are located front and rear behind the brake rotor dust shield, and are held in place by one 10mm bolt. I've also seen the wiring rub against the sway-bar end links, rubbing the insulation off down to bare wire. Also, the wiring likes to fray where it enters the plug before the wheel sensor..almost always up front.

I checked the connections, and all looked good, and I do not believe that I stressed the wiring when I removed the sensors. I did the resistance check and got 2.6 M-ohms on both sensors, nowhere near the 900-1380 ohms mentioned above. Does it seem strange that both sensors would fail at the same time and read the exact same resistance?
This weekend I will pull both sensors, clean and re-check, but it seems that I will likely need to replace both sensors based on the resistance values.

When I checked mine they only read on my basic meter in continuity mode with a 660ohm range on both. They appear to work fine but they only read the resistance in continuity mode with the probes one way around. Other way gave 0.
Did you remove the ABS sensors from the hub when working on the struts? If so was there any residue on the ends like grease from a leaking hub bearing or CV boot?
If you did not remove them, be careful and soak them with a good penetrating oil like PB Blaster (not WD-40) and let it sit for a while. Then gently try to work the bolts out and remove the sensors. If the sensors are stuck, be careful prizing them or you can break the tab for the lock down bolt off. Once they are out, clean the seating area on the hub casting with emery and the bolt threads with a wire brush. Also carefully clean the ABS sensors and check for damage or grease on them or the hole they fit into and then re-fit.
Neil.
