Volvo in NYC
What's good everyone I live in NYC and just got pass down a 2006 S40 2.4. I'm looking for a good place to take it to get look at. The check engine light is on and it has been hit on the passenger side door. I also think the timing belt need some work. Should I keep it or sell it? I would really like to see it back in great condition and want to do it but don't know where to start all help and suggestions would be deeply appreciated

Hey Montanna875, welcome to MVS. There aren't a lot of shops that specialize in Volvo in the tri-state area. I think most will give it a try, cars are cars afterall. But these things are finicky! I think most Volvos that you see on the road around here are being serviced at dealers. Which is why Volvos are expensive here in NYC until they're not...
Most "good" euro shops should have Volvo software. Look for a shop in the BX that specializes in BMW and Mercedes and give them a call. Ask them if they have Volvo software (I think it's VIDA DICE you're looking for, but I could be mistaken.) That check engine light could be something minor that Autozone could read for you, but it could be something that can only be read with a Volvo-specific computer. You could also look into doing this stuff yourself. A reader on ebay is $70 and another $10-20 for a USB reader and you'll be good to go!
Be warned though, Volvo service is crazy expensive sometimes. As long as you know what you're getting into, you'll get a good reliable car. (Which is why most of us try to do as much work on our own as we can...) My cousin recently took his 07 C70 to M-Spec Performance in Middle Village, Queens. It wasn't cheap... but they do good work.
If you're looking to get the car in tip top shape, search around for VOLVO Stage 0 posts. There are a lot for the older P80s, but I'm sure there has to be one for the S40 somewhere.
